The term 'Apache Tears' originated in the 1870s during the height of the American Indian War. There was a fierce battle between the US Cavalry and about 75 warriors from the Apache Tribe. This battle took place atop a mountain overlooking present day Superior, Arizona. The Apache became outnumbered, and the US Cavalry was closing in with haste. The tribesmen chose to take fate into their own hands, and rode their horses off of the cliff to their deaths, rather than being killed by their enemy. When family members heard this tragic news, they began to weep endlessly. These endless tears were believed to have been turned into obsidian, which we now refer to as Apache Tears.

PROPERTIES:: Apache Tears, also known as Obsidianite and Marekanite, is a special variety of Black Obsidian that crystallized in the form of small, indented pebbles. It was created by silica-rich lava that became embedded within the high water content mineral Perlite (a volcanic glass formed when water is absorbed during the cooling process of lava). It carries pure fire energy from deep within the Earth, and instantly grounds us back to Earth’s energy. Apache Tears are created from the deep core of the Earth whose energy will help us heal our deep seeded emotional wounds. A very supportive stone during times of unbearable sorrow, they work to help us move through our grief, to transmute it, so we can carry on. Apache Tears’ extremely powerful grounding energy can be harnessed to transport our spiritual energy back down to earth during times when we are living with only our higher Chakras in mind. It does this by helping us fuse our spiritual experiences with our physical body to ensure balance is achieved. Apache Tears are a valuable tool to enhance our logic and critical thinking skills. This opens the door to new opportunities and skills, resulting in a feeling of hope and new beginnings. Releasing undesirable energies of all forms, Apache Tears also inspires positive change and emboldens us to put a plan of action together to achieve our goals!
